Title: Computational Modeling with Category Theory

Abstract: Scientists use software to simulate scientific systems and spend a large fraction of their time working with code. However, they really want to spend their time working with mathematical models and using their expert knowledge of the underlying phenomena. The AlgebraicJulia software ecosystem uses Category Theory, a branch of abstract algebra, to represent the scientific knowledge and models that scientists reason about in order to formalize and automate scientific modeling tasks. I will talk about this approach and some applications of interest to mathematical biologists.
