UF Laboratory FOR SYSTEMS MEDICINE

Annual Student Research Symposium

Our students are the future leaders of research!

Every spring, the UF Laboratory for Systems Medicine holds an annual student research symposium where our student mentees showcase their research. The event includes middle and high school students from Alachua County, Orange County, and surrounding counties.

The symposium is held with the UF Department of Mathematics and the Orlando Math Circle (OMC) as part of the annual Future Leaders Advancing in Math and Medicine Experience (FLAMME). UF LSM is located within the University of Florida College of Medicine, Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care & Sleep Medicine.

Between 100-150 middle and high school prospective Gator research students attend the annual event and learn about researching with the LSM lab mentors, hear about the journeys of the university students and faculty, and get opportunities to ask their burning questions.

The UF Department of Mathematics takes the students for a tour of the UF campus, provides fun activities where the students interact with the UF university students and faculty, and joins them for lunch.

Middle and high school students are welcome to join the UF LSM Student Research Symposium for an enriching experience immersed with UF undergraduate and graduate students, researchers, and faculty that come from a wide range of backgrounds. They will learn how mathematics and medicine come together and have opportunities to make connections with potential future mentors.
